Join the Koraes Family
Choosing an elementary school for your child is one of the most important decisions you’ll make as a parent, and finding the right fit can be challenging. Koraes Elementary School offers challenging courses and development in the traditional core areas of study such as language arts, mathematics, social studies, and science. Greek foreign language, physical education, art, and integrated technology are also offered as part of the curriculum. One unique characteristic of the Koraes program is the study of Greek language, culture and heritage starting with the prekindergarten program through eighth grade. All of this is provided in a safe, nurturing, faith and family based environment during your child's formative years.
In addition to core education and religion classes emphasizing traditional Eastern Orthodox values, Koraes students come together regularly as a faith community to receive the sacraments and celebrate liturgies. By maintaining an Orthodox identity, our children learn to live their faith and to serve others. Daily morning prayer is a part of a child's life at Koraes.
Prekindergarten parents have the flexibility of sending their children three to 5 days a week in our half-day or full day program. Our Kindergarten is a full day program.
For the 2024-2025 school year, our school day will begin at 8:30am. Prekindergarten half day students end will end at 12:00. All other grades will be dismissed at 3:15pm. Early drop-off of children begins at 7:30am (with supervision). After school clubs and after school care (with supervision) ends at 4:30pm.
All children baptized in the Eastern Orthodox faith are welcome at the school. For additional questions, please contact our school office at 708.974.3402.
New Students & Prospective Families
February 1, 2024
Dear Prospective Families,
It is my pleasure to welcome you to Koraes Elementary School. We are excited for you to get to know us. Our goal is to admit families who are like-minded in their desire to raise their children in a Orthodox Christian setting. Koraes Elementary School is much more than a private school. We are a school community that is rooted in common beliefs, and we celebrate your Orthodox Christian faith as a part of who we are and how we live our lives.
Koraes is blessed to experience increasing enrollment over the past several years. This growth is occurring across grade levels. God is good. The verse Romans 12:12 comes to mind as we prepare to start a new school year in the fall: Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. It was the prayers of countless people from our community and beyond along with the teamwork from our school and parish community that have afforded us the opportunity to successfully employ and hire qualified staff in order to provide a learning environment that exceeds what a public school education can offer. We look forward to your family joining our community as we move forward during these times of growth.
We have a great deal to offer to your child in a student-centered, Orthodox Christian environment. The school is fully recognized by the Illinois State Board of Education, the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese, and the Ministry of Education of Greece. Our school is committed to providing an Orthodox Christian education in a safe, caring, nurturing and spiritual environment that will equip our students to pursue academic excellence, reinforce cultural awareness and social responsibility and inspire them in their spiritual growth. We appreciate families that sacrifice to send their children to Koraes.
Quick facts about our school:
Low student-teacher ratio in most grade levels
Student-centered curriculum
Rich classroom libraries
Instruction delivered in a workshop model to meet the varying needs of our learners
Full and half-day enrollment in preschool
Full day kindergarten
NWEA Map assessment K-8 three times yearly
Small group and leveled Greek instruction 5 days a week
Data driven instruction to support differentiation in the classroom
Integrated technology in the classrooms (Interactive televisions, document cameras, tablets, iPads, Chromebooks)
Academic interventions in reading and math
Curriculum aligned to the Illinois Learning Standards and the Illinois Early Learning and Development Standards
Social-Emotional Learning Curriculum
Community Service requirements for students (K-8)
Weekly religion (PK-8), art classes (PK-5); PE (PK-8) and recess (K-5)
Weekly church services and daily morning prayer before school begins
Individual Service Plan support from Palos School District 118
It excites me that Koraes teachers have the freedom to educate the whole child unlike students in public school systems. It is our expectation that our students will leave us after eighth grade and will attend high school well-equipped to manage their day-to-day studies, the challenges of peer pressures and other social stressors because they were educated in an Orthodox Christian school. Students who have graduated from Koraes Elementary School have left us with a passionate pursuit of knowledge, a heart for service and desire to continue to grow in their Orthodox faith. I am confident that you will find a warm, nurturing environment that is committed to the academic, spiritual, and social needs of your child.
Sincerely,
Beth Lind

Returning Koraes Families
February 1, 2024
Dear Koraes Families,
As we begin the enrollment process for the 2024-25 school year, we are excited to continue our partnership with you and your children during the new school year. Our staff is dedicated to providing a quality education in a safe, caring, nurturing and spiritual environment. The decision of where and how to educate your children is one of the most important decisions you have to make as a parent. We thank you for your continued trust and commitment to our beloved Koraes Elementary School. We appreciate our families that sacrifice to send their children to Koraes. Our commitment to our parents and students is to continually seek ways by which we can improve our overall program.
Our staff will continue to support children to excel academically and guide them as they grow in their Orthodox Christian faith. We will continue to work closely with our students as they develop long-lasting friendships while they persevere in the thirst of knowledge on their journey to becoming lifelong learners.
Please keep Koraes Elementary School in your prayers as we move through this very important phase of Koraes. We are growing and need additional space. God is good. We pray that God will continue to bless us with returning families along with bringing new prospective families as we make enrollment decisions for next year. Please be reminded of the Koraes Promoter Program. If you refer a family and they complete the registration process, you will receive a $500 discount off of your tuition.
Thank you for the privilege of serving your family and teaching your children.
Sincerely,
Beth Lind

Volunteer Policy 2024-2025
Koraes Elementary School is a not-for-profit educational institution that relies on volunteer
assistance to provide support for its community programs. For the 2024-2025 school year,
Koraes Elementary School is continuing its Volunteer Policy.
Each family is required to donate six (6) hours of their time at Koraes Elementary School
sponsored events that occur outside the school day (i.e. KPTA sponsored: Fall Festival,
Christmas Event, Winter Festival, Spring Fundraiser, Lenten Dinner, Jr. Olympics, School
sponsored: Gala, and the SSCH Church sponsored Picnic). Volunteer hours cannot be accrued
during the school day (i.e. hot lunch, field trips, book fair, Christmas shop, room parties, track
and field, etc).
The volunteer commitment and fee are per family, not per student. Volunteer hours are not
transferable from family to family nor can you accumulate hours from year to year. Volunteer
hours are awarded for support of specified events and not for class specific functions or in
school events.
Volunteer slots must be fulfilled by adults. Student volunteer hours do not count toward this
policy. We currently utilize Sign-Up Genius to organize volunteer opportunities. Volunteer
opportunities will be posted and parents must sign up and check in with the event coordinator
day of to receive credit.
To secure this obligation, Koraes Elementary school will offer two choices to our families:
Option 1. I/We make a commitment to the Koraes Elementary School Volunteer Program. I
agree to write a deposit check payable to Koraes Elementary School dated June 1, 2025 in the
amount of $500 (include family name on memo line). This will serve as security for our volunteer
commitment. My volunteer commitment check will be delivered to the School Office no later than
September 30, 2024. I acknowledge that if I do not submit my check by the stated deadline
above, my FACTS account will automatically be invoiced $500 and it will be due immediately. I
understand my volunteer commitment check will be shredded upon my completion of my six(6)
hours of volunteer service. In addition, I understand that if my family does not complete the full
six(6) hours of service by June 1, 2025 that I/we will forfeit the entire $500 deposit, and no
refund will be issued. Additionally, if my family is not in good financial standing with the school
by June 1, 2025 the volunteer commitment check will not be shredded and will be cashed
regardless if my family’s volunteer hours are met.
Option 2. I/we waive our volunteer obligation to Koraes Elementary School by choosing the
volunteer buyout option. I/We agree to pay the $500 fee to Koraes Elementary School by
September 30, 2024.
Funds raised from the Volunteer Policy will be directed into an account earmarked
for teacher professional development and ancillary materials for the 2024-25 School Year.
Tuition 2024-2025
Koraes provides two different tuition schedules. One schedule is discounted for Orthodox parents who are members in good standing with their Orthodox Parish for 2024. The second is a higher tuition rate schedule for Orthodox parents who do not hold a membership at an Orthodox Parish for the calendar year 2024. Our billing procedure will be as follows (March 2018 School Board Decision): All new and returning families will be initially billed the higher tuition rate. See the no stewardship tuition rate (no exceptions). It is up to the family (not the school office) to obtain a letter from their Parish stating that they are members in good standing for the 2024 calendar year. Once the school office receives this document, a credit will be issued moving you to the lower rate tuition schedule. Verbal notice will not qualify for issuing this credit. If the stewardship letter in good standing is received 30 days prior to your first FACTS payment, then you will be immediately credited and will pay the lower monthly tuition rate throughout the year. If the stewardship letter is not received by this deadline, then you will initially pay the higher monthly tuition amount (no exceptions) until the stewardship letter is received. When a Parish letter in good standing is received after you begin your monthly FACTS tuition payments at the higher tuition rate, we will credit your account for the total difference and adjust (decrease) ONLY your future monthly payment amounts. Letters in good standing must be received by October 1st, 2024 to qualify for the lower tuition rates for the 2024-2025 school year. No adjustments will be made to tuition after November 1, 2024 (no exceptions).
